HOW TO BECOME AN ARTIST FOR BUTTERFLIES AT BRANSON
Calling ALL artists!
If you are interested in sharing your artistic talent with the community we have just what you are looking for!
Submit your design proposal for the Butterflies At Branson, by downloading an Artist Registration application or contact us to find on how to get involved and have your creation become a part of what is shaping up to be the most unique event Branson has experienced in years!
Artists are encouraged to submit multiple designs.
The benefits to the Artists are tremendous!
- No up-front costs
- sponsors supply the artists requested materials
- Artists are included in all the publicity for the event from March - October 2008
- Artist will be offered 20% of the auction price of their designed butterfly at the Butterfly Ball and Benefit Auction to be held on October 10, 2008.
Please feel free to take a look at the list of our current sponsors for possible opportunities for design themes. Currently, we have requests for designs by the themes of: Western, Dance, Broadway, Elvis, Giving, Ireland, Cowboys, Food Pantry, Patriotic and Ozarks Nature.
This project will be highly publicized and will include supporting events that will take place throughout the community from March – October, 2008.
A review panel must approve all design submissions. Artists of selected designs will be notified by December 1, 2007.
All completed butterflies will be auctioned off at a closing event to benefit Christian Action Ministries.

Technical Notes and Design Criteria:
Fiberglass butterfly forms are made in America by Icon Poly with American materials. Artists may alter the basic butterfly form but cannot compromise its structural integrity. The contact point where the butterfly is attached to its base cannot be altered or obstructed. Structural alterations that result in fundamental change to the basic butterfly form must be carried out under the direct supervision of auto body shop or fiberglass fabricator.
The artist may paint, sculpt, transform or adorn the butterfly using mosaic, mirrors, tiles or other media. Although objects may be attached to the butterfly, vandalism may and unfortunately does occur. Any object that is affixed to a butterfly must be attached in a way that it cannot easily be removed. Any object attached to a butterfly must be weather resistant.
Butterflies will be placed in areas fully accessible to the public from March 29, 2008 through October 10, 2008. Artists should also consider that the butterflies may be purchased for a long-term installation in an outdoor location and therefore should consider the weather and other elements, including sun, rain, wind and dirt. Artist must develop designs that can withstand the weather.
Artist is responsible making sure the completed butterfly is ready for two coats of auto body clear coat to be applied as the final step for weather protection before returning to Branson for the unveiling of the exhibit March 2008. This auto body clear coat will cost $50 per butterfly and will be included in the Sponsor Responsibilities.
Butterflies At Branson is a community public art event. The butterflies will be placed in highly trafficked locations
where the public can view and at times touch the designs. Public safety is a significant concern. Designs should be created with durability and safety in mind.
Designs must be appropriate for public display. Corporate logos and advertising are not permitted. A review panel will evaluate all designs. This review panel has sole discretion to accept or reject any design.
Designs that reflect area themes such as entertainment, nature, tourism, etc. are encouraged as long as there are no corporate logos included as part of the design. Please remember that designs must be appropriate for family viewing.
Design Proposal Requirements:
-
Two (2) color copies of each proposed design must be submitted in 8 1/2" x 11" size for approval by the review panel.
-
Artist must provide a supply list with the total cost of supplies for each design proposal submitted. (The sponsor who selects your design will cover the cost of listed supplies for chosen design)
Deadlines:
- Artist applications must be returned for review - November 1, 2007
- Proposed designs submitted for approval - November 1, 2007
- Artist must provide a personal head shot and a short bio - November 1, 2007
- Chosen artist/designs will be notified - December 1, 2007
- Artist must pick up butterfly for completion - January 11, 2008
- Completed butterfly(s) returned to Branson for photo shoot - March 17, 2008
